BKM Impact in Colombia – July 21

Bogota Kids Mission

Last Tuesday I stood in the door watching kids run down the street towards The Bridge. Third semester classes were starting up after our midyear break. Kids were clearly excited to be back.

The preceding Friday we had met as staff to clean up, wax floors and make sure everything was ready to go. (With unpaved streets outside our door, it’s amazing how much dust accumulates in three weeks of dry weather!) We also took time to discuss how we view ministry at The Bridge and where we would like to take it before the year ends.

As a starting point, Luz so aptly identified that it is only through God’s grace that we are able to bless the children. Lloyd created an image of how life is much like an obstacle course for the kids. We are present to help each child maneuver the chasms, dangers and barriers that confront him or her. Taking that a step further, Mechas shared how much darkness exists in some of the kids’ homes and through God’s Word we can provide a loving, light-filled environment for these children. I was personally struck by Adriana’s view that God uses The Bridge to not just bring light but color into their lives. All of this built towards Janet’s concept that we provide a safe place where kids can flourish.

While each perspective was unique, they all fit together and we were unified with a sense of gratitude for being called to serve in these ways.

There is always a desire to be able to provide and give more. Our staff had some great ideas! Perhaps the greatest need and desire would be to create time and space to hear kids out and provide counseling services. Obviously these issues come down to time, personnel and funding. For such, we solicit your prayers – primarily that provision will be there for us to fulfill all that God is calling us to do.

Thank you again for how you continue to make it all possible!
