BKM Impact in Colombia – August 19

Bogota Kids Mission

Emma* first started at The Bridge during the pandemic, when all we could do was hand out study packets for kids on a weekly basis. She has been with us ever since, first in our homeschool program and progressing to homework assistance once she entered public school.

Emma busy with homework.

The other day as she sat beside Profe Janet, doing homework, she started to muse:“I like the foundation. I like being here … Profe Anita taught me what I know.”

When Janet asked her how she had actually come to the ‘The Bridge’ she replied, “A friend of my mom had a son in the foundation. She said this was a good place, that mom could sign me up – that it was a safe place. When mom enrolled me in public school she thought I would be placed in kindergarten, but they put me in second grade. My mom was really happy because of all that I had learned here.”

Underprivileged kids seem to struggle a lot with health issues and Vincent* who is an enthusiastic first grader in our homeschool program was absent from The Bridge for over a week. According to his mother, he was biting at the bit to get back. Upon his return, his prayer during the devotional time went:

“Daddy God, I thank you because I could come back to my school. Thank you because I was sick and you healed me. Thank you because I read the Bible at home. (That’s a storybook Bible The Bridge was able to give him last Christmas.) Thank you because my mom was sick and I told you to heal her and you did.”

Know your prayers sustain us as God continues to move in the lives of our kids and their families.
